However, it has the built-in flexibility to allow for an additional 20,000 seats for major events. There’s talk on the street that the Super Bowl could be held there as soon as 2011. The new stadium, which will sport a retractable roof, is going to incorporate some of the very same features of Texas Stadium, where the Cowboys ruled the roost for the past 35 years. Texas Rangers. They started out as the Washington Senators in 1961 when President John F. Kennedy threw out the ceremonial first pitch. One of their most famous managers was baseball great Ted Williams. Eleven years later, the team moved to Arlington, Texas where they became the Texas Rangers. Another baseball icon, Billy Martin, managed the team for two years. Famous players to wear the Rangers’ uniform include Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan-who threw two of his seven no-hitters with Texas-and Alex Rodriguez, who signed a 10-year contract in 2000 for a record $252 million. Ameriquest Field. Formerly known as The Ballpark in Arlington, Ameriquest Field is the home of the American League Texas Rangers.
